Edoardo Mortara leidt dubbelzege Signature op Paul Ricard

Edoardo Mortara heeft zojuist de allereerste race van het nieuwe Formule 3 Euroseries-seizoen gewonnen. De Italiaan kende een zeer goede start en eindigde zeven tienden voor zijn teamgenoot Marco Wittmann.

Mortara startte de race als vijfde, maar lag na de eerste ronde al op de tweede positie, vlak achter teamgenoot Wittmann. In de vierde ronde wist Mortara de Duitser te passeren en gaf daarna de leiding niet meer af. Wittmann bleef echter aanklampen, kon geen aanval meer wagen, maar werd wel tweede op slechts zeven tienden achter Mortara.

Alexander Sims wist in de slotfase polesitter Daniel Juncadella te passeren en pakte zo de laatste podiumplaats. Juncadella eindigde als vierde, gevolgd door Roberto Merhi en Adrian Hobbs die een sterke eerste race reed. Jim Pla en Antonio Felix da Costa completteerden de top acht. Titelkandidaat Valtteri Bottas kreeg tijdens de race een drive trough-penalty omdat hij verkeerd stond opgesteld op de grid. De Fin eindigde als negende, terwijl Laurens Vanthoor de finish van de race niet haalde.
