Roberto Merhi scoort eerste Euroseries-overwinning in tweede race

Roberto Merhi heeft vanmiddag tijdens de tweede Formule 3 Euroseries-race in Hockenheim zijn eerste zege gescoord. De Spanjaard bleef Daniel Juncadella voor in de slotfase, terwijl Edoardo Mortara de laatste podiumplaats pakte.

Juncadella mocht vanaf de pole position vertrekken bij de start, maar verloor in de eerste ronde al twee posities aan Antonio Felix da Costa en Roberto Merhi. Felix da Costa behield die leiding slechts enkele ronden vast, waarna Merhi de koppositie overnam. Even later kreed Felix da Costa ook nog een drive trough-penalty omdat hij in de eerste bocht te wijd was gegaan.

Merhi reed hierdoor comfortabel aan de leiding, maar zag in de slotfase Juncadella steeds dichterbij komen. Uiteindelijk bleven de twee Spanjaarden een halve seconde van elkaar gescheiden en zo pakte Merhi zijn eerste overwinning in de Euroseries. Edoardo Mortara volgde op 1,4 seconden als derde.

Marco Wittmann pakte de vierde plaats, gevolgd door Valtteri Bottas en Jim Pla pakte met zijn zesde plaats het laatste puntje. Alexander Sims was op weg naar een puntenfinish, maar technische problemen gooiden bij hem roet in het eten. Laurens Vanthoor kende wederom pech en kon in de eerste ronde al uitstappen.
