Cassidy pakt eerste overwinning, Stroll valt uit

De tweede race van het Formule 3-weekend op Circuit Park Zandvoort is een prooi geworden voor Nick Cassidy. Cassidy mocht als tweede starten nadat Lance Stroll achteraan werd gezet vanwege een onreglementaire auto. Voor Cassidy is het zijn eerste overwinning in de Formule 3. Maximilian Gunther werd tweede, Callum Ilot derde. Lance Stroll, de leider in het kampioenschap, viel uit.

Bij de start kwam Cassidy beter weg dan de man op pole, Calum Ilot. Cassidy zette hem er naast in de Tarzanbocht en pakte zo de leiding. Ilot probeerde nog terug te komen, maar verloor wat snelheid en zag ook Maximilian Gunther voorbij komen. Cassidy en Gunther reden weg bij Ilot, die de race was gestart op gebruikte banden.

Halverwege de race kon Ilot het gaatje naar de leiders toch weer verkleinen. Dat was ook het moment dat Ilot meer problemen begon te krijgen met de banden en de geboekte tijdswinst verdween al snel. Cassidy kon ondertussen ook wegrijden bij Gunther en had aan de finish een seconde over.

Lance Stroll kende een slechte race. Na zijn straf in de kwalificatie wilde de Canadees zo hoog mogelijk eindigen, maar een beschadigde diffuser bracht zijn wedstrijd ten einde. Ondanks zijn uitvalbeurt heeft Stroll nog steeds een ruime voorsprong in het kampioenschap. De derde en laatste race van het weekend begint vanmiddag om 15:30 uur.
