Edoardo Mortara verslaat Vanthoor voor overwinning

Edoardo Mortara heeft zijn leidende positie in de Euroseries vanochtend verstevigd. De Italiaan pakte in de eerste race op de Nürburgring de overwinning, terwijl de Belg Laurens Vanthoor als tweede eindigde. Zo pakte Signature meteen een dubbelzege.

Laurens Vanthoor kreeg nog vóór de start van de race de tweede plaats in handen, nadat Valtteri Bottas tien plaatsen achteruit moest na de kwalificatie. Bij de start kwam de Belg beter weg dan teamgenoot Edoardo Mortara en pakte de leiding over. Echter, al in de eerste bocht kwam de Italiaan langszij en pakte de koppositie weer over.

Vanaf dat moment was Mortara niet te verslaan en liep hij gestaag weg bij Vanthoor. De Belg kende verder een eenzame race, maar zorgde wel voor een dubbelzege bij Signature door als tweede te eindigen. Roberto Merhi eindigde als derde, maar moest wel Alexander Sims het grootste gedeelte van de race achter zich zien te houden.

Marco Wittmann viel bij de start terug van de vierde tot de zevende plaats, maar wist uiteindelijk nog als vijfde over de finish te komen. Bottas eindigde na zijn gridpenalty nog als zesde, terwijl Antonio Felix da Costa als zevende over de streep kwam. Jim Pla pakte het laatste puntje én de pole position voor de tweede race.
