Stelt Stroll de Europese titel in Imola veilig?

Lance Stroll stevent af op de titel in het Europees kampioenschap Formule 3. De 17-jarige Canadees staat er na twee overwinningen en een tweede plek op de Nürburgring riant voor. Maximilian Günther is zijn enige overgebleven concurrent.

De Duitser staat echter wel al 68 punten achter op Stroll. Mocht de ontwikkelingsrijder van Williams in Imola acht punten meer scoren dan Günther, dan verzekert hij zich in het voorlaatste weekend van het seizoen al van de Europese titel. Stroll verzamelt sowieso genoeg punten om een superlicentie af te dwingen. De races op Imola staan begin oktober op het programma.

De Van Amersfoort Racing-coureurs spelen geen rol van betekenis in het kampioenschap. Callum Ilott is de best geklasseerde op plek vijf. Een top drie-notering lijkt het hoogst haalbare voor de Brit. Ilott staat maar vijf punten achter op Nick Cassidy, die momenteel de derde plaats bezet.

Anthoine Hubert staat zevende met 124 punten. Pedro Piquet en Harrison Newey hebben meer moeite om bij het vereiste niveau aan te haken, met respectievelijk 19 punten en 16 punten. Bij de teams neemt Van Amersfoort Racing de derde positie in, op eerbiedwaardige achterstand van het ongenaakbare Prema Powerteam.
