Stroll wint race een ondanks aanvaring met teamgenoot

Lance Stroll heeft de eerste Formule 3-race van het finaleweekend van het Europese Formule 3-kampioenschap op de Hockenheimring gewonnen. Zonder slag of stoot ging dat niet: Stroll en teamgenoot Maximilian Gunther kwamen elkaar tegen in de race en de twee raakten elkaar. Even stond de overwinning van Stroll ter discussie, maar de wedstrijdleiding besloot geen straf uit te delen.

Vanaf pole kwam Stroll prima weg en leidde de Canadees de race met achter zich teamgenoot Gunther en Nick Cassidy. Bij het ingaan van bocht twee verremde Stroll zich waardoor Gunther en Cassidy richting de hairpin hun kans schoon zagen. Gunther kwam voor Stroll te liggen, maar de Canadees deed een alles-of-niets poging in de volgende ronde. Gunther stuurde echter in, maar in plaats van zijn plek te houden viel de Duitser terug naar plek drie.

Gunther wist zich in de achtste ronde weer op te werken naar een tweede plaats zodat het aan de finish een top vier was voor het Prema Powerteam. Van Amersfoort Racing kende een matige eerste race, met Anthoine Hubert als best geklasseerde coureur op de tiende plaats, Illot viel uit terwijl Newey en Piquet buiten de top tien finishten.
