Vier titelkandidaten ontlopen elkaar weinig

In het Europees kampioenschap Formule 3 hebben vier titelkandidaten zich losgeweekt van de rest. Joel Eriksson, Maximilian Günther, Callum Ilott en Lando Norris zullen met elkaar strijden om de titel. Daarbij heeft Eriksson op dit moment de beste papieren, maar zijn voorsprong is klein.

De Zweed staat op 183 punten, vijf punten meer dan Günther. Ilott volgt op 21 punten van Eriksson. Norris begon als gedeeld leider aan het weekend op de Hungaroring, maar het talent uit de McLaren-opleiding was in Hongarije het minste van dit viertal. Hij heeft 25 punten minder dan Eriksson.

Daarachter is een gapend gat naar Ferrari-talent Guan Yu Zhou op de vijfde plaats. De Chinees heeft 65 punten ingezameld. Force India-protegé Jehan Daruvala bezet een keurige zesde positie. Mick Schumacher staat nog net in de top tien in de tussenstand, met 49 punten.

Voor Van Amersfoort Racing is het tot op heden een kleurloos seizoen. Harrison Newey is op de negende plek de hoogst geklasseerde coureur van de Nederlandse renstal. Rookie Joey Mawson was op de Hungaroring goed voor een fors aantal punten. Pedro Piquet valt ronduit tegen.

Dat deed David Beckmann ook. In dienst bij Van Amersfoort Racing scoorde de Duitser geen enkel punt, waarna het team en de coureur voor Hongarije besloten om uit elkaar te gaan. Beckmann sloot zich aan bij Motopark en prompt finishte hij op de Hungaroring twee keer als vijfde.
