Billy Monger racet komend weekend in Formule 3

Billy Monger maakt komend weekend zijn rentree als coureur. De jonge Brit is door Carlin bevestigd voor de opening van het Brits Formule 3-kampioenschap op Oulton Park. Het betreft vooralsnog een overeenkomst voor alleen dit weekend, met het doel om dat uit te breiden naar de rest van het seizoen.

De 18-jarige Monger werd vorig jaar wereldnieuws door een ernstig ongeluk tijdens een Formule 4-race op Donington Park. Hij klapte vol op een andere deelnemer en raakte daarbij beide onderbenen kwijt. Monger gaf echter niet op, testte de voorbije maanden meermaals met een speciaal voor hem omgebouwde Formule 3-wagen en racet komend weekend dus voor Carlin in de Britse Formule 3.

Monger: "Het doet me deugd om te bevestigen dat ik bij de start van het Brits Formule 3-kampioenschap op Oulton Park op de grid zal staan. Voorlopig bekijken we het race voor race, maar ik hoop spoedig aan te kunnen kondigen dat ik het seizoen af mag maken. Ik ben Carlin en mijn sponsor Baylis & Harding dankbaar voor hun steun. Ik kan niet wachten om weer te racen!"

Top voor hem maar ik ben wel een beetje Billy Monger moe. Hopelijk kunnen we nu weer verder en pas weer van hem horen als hij zn eerste overwinning haalt. Gehandicapten moet je namelijk niet anders behandelen, dat vinden zelf niet leuk namelijk

Mooi voor hem.
Waarschijnlijk hoger nivo dan hij ooit met 2 volledige benen zou hebben geraced.

Ik vraag mij een ding af. Ik twijfel niet aan zijn capaciteiten als coureur hoor, maar meer als een gerede twijfel in geval van een crash. Hoe snel is die jongen uit zijn bolide?

  Nee zonder gekheid nu.
  Ik denk dat hij daarmee echt geholpen moet worden. Super dat hij het wil proberen en chaupeu voor zijn doorzettingsvermogen, maar ik vraav me af of de sport hier wel goed aan doet.
  Misschien dat ze ooit iets met protheses kunnen voor hem zodat hij iets mobieler zal worden en weer op niveau kan gaan rijden.

  Eens, het enige is dat hij wel moet kunnen racen. Als dat zeker is (en daar gaat het nu over), dan kunnen we over tot de orde van de dag en hem beoordelen op z'n race capaciteiten.

  Als men ze niet anders moeten behandelen dan moet men eerst een ophouden met een persoon bij handicap te noemen. Het is een persoon met een handicap en geen gehandicapte.
