Daniel Ticktum start eerste race van pole, crash voor Mick Schumacher

Red Bull-junior coureur Dan Ticktum start de eerste race van het openingsweekend Formule 3 in het Franse Pau van pole position. De Brit leek het af te moeten leggen tegen Prema-coureur Mick Schumacher, maar de zoon van zevenvoudig wereldkampioen Michael Schumacher maakte een foutje in de straten van Pau en start slechts als negentiende.

Ticktum had na de crash van Schumacher alleen nog concurrentie van Ferdinand Habsburg, maar de Oostenrijker bleef steken op twee tienden. In de eerste kwalificatiegroep was Guan Yo Zhou het snelst, de Chinees start de race als tweede. Na de kwalificatie kreeg Habsburg een gridstraf van tien plaatsen en dus krijgt Formule 3-debutant Robert Schwartzman de derde startpositie cadeau. De eerste van drie races in Pau begint om 11:10 uur.
