Ticktum verslaat Fenestraz in eerste race op Silverstone

Daniel Ticktum heeft de eerste race van het Europees Formule 3 op Silverstone winnend afgesloten. De Brit ging in de slotfase voorbij aan Sacha Fenestraz. Fenestraz werd tweede, Enaam Ahmed mocht als derde naar het podium.

Fenestraz had zich naar pole position gekwalificeerd en kon zich lang handhaven op die plaats. Ticktum wist het gaatje naar de Franse koploper gedurende de race steeds kleiner te maken en met nog vijf minuten te gaan volgde de aanval. De Red Bull Junior was in dat rechtstreekse duel de sterkste, waarna hij wegreed bij de Renault-junior. Fenestraz werd nog wel tweede, omdat het gaatje naar Enaam Ahmed groot genoeg was. Ticktum neemt door zijn zege ook de leiding in het kampioenschap over van Marcus Armstrong, die de race als zesde eindigde.

Armstrong was daarmee de beste man van Prema, dat verder geplaagd werd door pech. Robert Schvartzman werd nog achtste, maar Mick Schumacher en Guan Yu Zhou vielen beiden uit met een lekke band. Ook voor Ralf Aron zat de race er vroegtijdig op na een spin.
