Simo Laaksonen voor MP Motorsport in het FIA Formule 3-kampioenschap

Het Nederlandse MP Motorsport uit Westmaas, onder de rook van Rotterdam, heeft voor 2019 Simo Laaksonen gecontracteerd. De 20-jarige Finse coureur wil bij MP Motosport voortbouwen op zijn eerdere GP3-ervaring.

Laaksonen sloot het vorige seizoen af door op Abu Dhabi zijn eerste podiumplaats te behalen. De Finse coureur sloot een aantal goede wedstrijden af door telkens in de punten te finishen. "Ik ben blij dat ik mijn eerste FIA Formule 3-seizoen voor MP Motorsport mag uitkomen", vertelde hij. "Ze waren vorig jaar in hun eerste jaar de verrassing in de GP3. Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat we in 2019 voor meer verrassingen kunnen zorgen. Met de nieuwe Formule 3-auto is het voor iedereen weer een gelijk speelveld, dus in de voorbereiding van het seizoen gaan we ons best doen om een snelle auto te ontwikkelen."

"Al vanaf het moment dat hij een van onze tegenstanders was in het SMP NEZ Formule 4-kampioenschap van 2015 hebben we Simo in de gaten gehouden", vertelde Sander Dorsman, teammanager van MP. "Sinds die tijd heeft hij een sterke ontwikkeling laten zien. Het was goed om hem vorig jaar in de tweede seizoenshelft zo'n vooruitgang te zien boeken. We kijken ernaar uit om voort te bouwen op dat momentum en het maximale uit zijn capaciteiten te halen."

Laaksonen in de eerste coureur die bij MP Motorsport bekend is gemaakt. De andere coureurs zullen volgen. Richard Verschoor heeft, naar het lijkt, de beste kans om in de Formule 2 actief te zijn. Vorige week tekende onze landgenoot Bent Viscaal voor het Duitse HWA Racelab. Het FIA Formule 3-kampioenschap heeft in maart verschillende testdagen op het circuit van Paul Ricard in Frankrijk. Vorige week woensdag had de klasse de introductie van de nieuwe auto op het Franse Magny-Cours.
