Vips pakt pole position op Silverstone, Nederlanders in achterhoede

Juri Vips heeft zich verzekerd van de pole position voor de eerste Formule 3-race op Silverstone. De Estse coureur was in de kwalificatie nipt sneller dan Prema-coureurs Marcus Armstrong en Jehan Daruvala.

De spannende kwalificatie sessie werd pas in de laatste seconden beslist. De verbeteringen kwamen in een rap tempo en uiteindelijk was het dus Vips die zichzelf de beste uitgangspositie verschafte. Met een 1:43.902 was hij een kleine tiende sneller dan Armstrong, de tweede man die onder de grens van 1 minuut en 44 seconden dook. Daruvala, de nummer 2 van de titelstrijd, volgde op nog geen twee honderdsten van Armstrong op P3.

Christian Lundgaard verzekerde zich van de vierde positie op de grid, nadat hij in de vrije training de snelste was geweest. Op rij 3 staan Leonardo Pulcini en kampioenschapsleider Robert Shwartzman, met Liam Lawson en Pedro Piquet op de vierde rij. De top 10 op Silverstone werd afgesloten door Fabio Scherer en Ye Yifei.

De Nederlanders speelden geen rol van betekenis tijdens de kwalificatie op Silverstone. MP Motorsport-coureur Richard Verschoor was de beste van het duo, maar met de achttiende positie zal hij niet tevreden zijn. Bent Viscaal had het nog lastiger, want de coureur van HWA Racelab kwam niet verder dan de 25ste positie.
