Logan Sargeant verruilt Carlin voor kampioensteam Prema

Prema heeft haar eerste coureur voor het Formule 3-seizoen 2020 vastgelegd. Logan Sargeant zal een van de coureurs zijn die ervoor moeten zorgen dat de successen van 2019 herhaald worden.

Op zeer overtuigende wist Prema in het eerste seizoen van de FIA Formula 3 beslag te leggen op de titels. Het kampioenschap voor teams werd op eenvoudige wijze binnengehaald, nadat Robert Shwartzman, Marcus Armstrong en Jehan Daruvala met zijn drieën de top 3 van het kampioenschap voor coureurs bezetten. Van Ferrari-junioren Shwartzman en Armstrong is inmiddels al duidelijk dat ze de F3 verruilen voor de Formule 2.

Komend seizoen zal Prema haar titels natuurlijk willen verdedigen en de eerste coureur die het team daarvoor aangewezen heeft, is Sargeant. De 18-jarige Amerikaan eindigde op de negentiende positie in het kampioenschap van 2019 met Carlin, maar zijn hoogtepunt volgde met een podiumplaats in Macau. In 2020 hoopt hij met Prema de volgende stap te kunnen zetten.

"Ik kijk ernaar uit om in 2020 met Prema te racen. Ik ben blij dat ik na hun dominante seizoen in dit spannende kampioenschap de kans heb gekregen om dat succes mee te nemen richting volgend seizoen. We hadden al een geweldige test in Valencia die erg goed ging, waarbij we sterke tijden uit de auto haalden en goed samenwerkten. Mijn doel voor 2020 is om mezelf op en naast de baan te blijven verbeteren en uiteindelijk om Prema te helpen de titels te behouden", aldus Sargeant.

Sargeant was een van de coureurs die voor Prema in actie kwam tijdens de testsessies van vorige maand in Valencia. Ook Oscar Piastri, Fredrik Vesti, Enzo Fittipaldi en Enaam Ahmed kwamen toen voor het team in actie. Vesti reed ook voor het Italiaanse team in Macau en lijkt een kanshebber te zijn voor een van de twee overgebleven zitjes bij Prema.
