Athur Leclerc pakt tweede zege van seizoen op Zandvoort

PREMA-rijder Arthur Leclerc heeft de eerste sprintrace op Zandvoort op zijn naam geschreven en pakte daarmee zijn tweede overwinning van 2021. Het broertje van Ferrari-F1-coureur Charles Leclerc had de hele wedstrijd druk van achteren, maar bleef door slim verdedigen de rest voor. Red Bull-junior Ayumu Iwasa werd derde en pakte daarmee zijn tweede podium van het seizoen.

Leclerc startte vanaf P3, maar liet zien dat inhalen vanaf het begin mogelijk was. De Monegask koos bij de start een andere lijn en pakte brutaal de leiding af. Daarna moest de 20-jarige coureur continu in de spiegels kijken met Sargeant, Iwasa, Jak Crawford en Ciao Collet vlak achter hem aan. Ondanks een korte onderbreking als gevolg van een crash bij bocht 1, hield Leclerc zijn hoofd koel na de herstart en bleef zijn concurrenten nipt voor. De top vijf finishte uiteindelijk binnen 3 seconden van elkaar.

Strijd kampioenschap

Ondertussen hadden de kampioenschapsleiders plaatsen goedgemaakt met Dennis Hauger vanaf de 12e plaats in de punten, achtste voor Frederik Vesti en Clément Novalak, terwijl Jack Doohan vanaf P9 naar de zesde plaats was geklommen, voor Victor Martins.

Hauger behoudt de voorsprong in het kampioenschap met 166 punten, 28 voor Doohan met 138. Vesti staat derde met 103, Martins vierde met 99 en Smolyar vijfde met 92. In de titelstrijd van de teams staat PREMA eerste met 314, voor Trident op 279 en ART Grand Prix op 204. Het Nederlandse MP motorsport staat vierde met 168, voor Hitech met 104.

Leclerc: ''Ik ben heel blij''

"Ik ben heel blij dat ik heb gewonnen'', zei Leclerc voor de microfoon''. Het was een moeilijke omdat er veel druk was van Logan (Sargeant), die erg snel was. Ik worstelde een beetje met de balans, dus we moeten een beetje werken om wat meer snelheid te vinden, maar ik ben erg blij met het resultaat. Er waren geen fouten, ik heb eigenlijk maar één fout gemaakt, dus ik ben blij met de overwinning.''

De volgende sprintrace is zaterdagmiddag om 17.55 uur Nederlandse tijd. De wedstrijd is live te volgen via F1TV en Ziggo Sport.
