Sargeant wint op Sotsji zijn eerste race van 2021, Hauger stelt titel veilig

Logan Sargeant won in Sotsji de sprintrace en bezorgde daarmee voor zijn team Charouz Racing System een historische eerste zege. Achter de Amerikaan werd Dennis Hauger tweede en stelde daarmee zijn titel veilig doordat directe concurrent Jack Doohan niet verder kwam dan P15.

Victor Martins, rijdend voor het Nederlandse MP Motorsport, maakte de top drie compleet. Voor zijn teamgenoot, Tijmen van der Helm, eindigde de wedstrijd in mineur door een geplofte motor, maar de rook en vuur uit de achterkant van zijn bolide zorgden wel voor het nodige spektakel.

De eerste sprintrace werd vrijdagmiddag verreden in plaats van zaterdagochtend vanwege het slechte weer dat dit weekend was voorspeld. De organisatie wilde geen risico nemen met de kans dat de wedstrijd geannuleerd zou worden.

Beloning na hard werken

De kerverse kampioen Hauger was ontzettend blij met zijn behaalde kampioenschap. ''Het betekent alles voor mij. Het is de beloning na hard werken met het team het gehele jaar. Om alles voor te bereiden voor de races en al het reizen - het is een levensstijl'', begon de Noor, die onderdeel is van het Red Bull Junior Team. ''Je doet het omdat je het leuk vindt. Het is leuk, maar ook hard werken. Vorig seizoen was niet het beste jaar, het was mentaal zwaar, dus het kampioenschap behalen is onwerkelijk.''

Hauger treed met zijn verworven titel in de voetsporen van F2-rijder Oscar Piastri, die in 2020 ook voor PREMA het F3-kampioenschap binnensleepte. Een logische vervolgstap voor Hauger is een treetje hoger. ''De natuurlijke stap na het winnen in F3 zou F2 zijn, maar er zijn een paar dingen die daarvoor samen moeten komen. We zullen zien na dit weekend, we blijven eraan werken en we zullen zien.''

  Hoewel ik het met je eens ben dat de kwaliteit van schrijven hier op de site vaak te wensen over laat, ben ik het niet eens met jouw oproep tot ontslag. Helemaal niet aangezien dit artikel is geschreven door Martijn Arnoldus, naar mijn bescheiden mening (verreweg) de beste schrijver van GPToday.
  
  Maar inderdaad, die titel klopt gewoon niet.

  Ik vond het een redelijk vermakelijke race. Sargeant bij de start de leiding overgenomen en knap de race gecontroleerd. Hauger erg strak en berekenend gereden, met een paar nette inhaalacties en zo in stijl de titel binnengesleept. :)
