Juan Manuel Correa verlengt verblijf bij ART Grand Prix

Juan Manuel Correa komt ook komend seizoen voor ART Grand Prix uit in de Formule 3. De 22-jarige Amerikaan met Ecuadoraanse roots verzamelde vorig jaar elf punten op weg naar een 21ste plek in het kampioenschap. Niet echt indrukwekkende cijfers, maar voor Correa was het al een overwinning op zich om terug te keren in de autosport, na zijn zware crash in 2019.

Bij die horrorcrash op Spa-Francorchamps, waarbij Anthoine Hubert om het leven kwam, liep Correa meerdere botbreuken in zijn benen op. Hij onderging in totaal 25 operaties gedurende zijn revalidatie. Zelf mikte hij op een comeback in 2022, maar ART Grand Prix bood hem vorig jaar al de kans en geeft hem nu de gelegenheid om te laten zien dat hij groeiende is.

Correa: "Ik ben dolblij om bij ART te blijven en voort te borduren op ons eerste jaar samen. 2021 was geen makkelijk jaar voor mij. Er was veel gaande, zowel sportief gezien als medisch gezien. Ik heb het gevoel dat ik dit seizoen op een veel hoger niveau kan aanvangen, zodat ik misschien mijn oude niveau weer aan kan tikken. Ik ben ART dankbaar voor het vertrouwen en ik geloof dat we een mooi jaar tegemoet gaan."

Namens ART gaf Sebastien Philippe het volgende commentaar: "Juan Manuel voorzag ons van positieve feedback en paste perfect binnen ons team. Je zag hem continu progressie boeken na een jaar stilgestaan te hebben. Zijn sterke karakter heeft hem geholpen om het plezier te hervinden en regelmatig in de top tien te knokken. Voor 2022 wil hij met behulp van het team een volgende stap zetten en samen hopen we onze ambities waar te maken en een gooi te doen naar de titels."

Eerder legde ART al debutant Gregoire Saucy vast voor het komende Formule 3-seizoen.
