Williams-junior O'Sullivan maakt Formule 3-transfer naar Prema

De door Williams gesteunde coureur Zak O’Sullivan zal vanaf volgend jaar aansluiten bij het F3-team van Prema. De coureur debuteerde dit seizoen in de Formule 3 bij team Carlin en behaalde twee podiumscores. Het Italiaanse Prema maakt deze week een dubbelslag, afgelopen maandag maakte het al bekend dat het Ollie Bearman naar haar Formule 2-team promoveert, met als gevolg dat het een stoeltje vrij had voor O’Sullivan in haar Formule 3-kamp.

Deze week spreekt Prema duidelijk taal. Na Ferrari Driver Academy-coureur Ollie Bearman te laten promoveren richting de Formule 2, heeft het Zak O’Sullivan weggesnoept van het team van Carlin. O’Sullivan is een door Williams gesteunde coureur, hiermee heeft Prema zoden aan de dijk gezet door opnieuw een coureur aan zich te binden die een potentieel vooruitzicht heeft op de Formule 1.

"Ik ben zeer enthousiast dat ik bij Prema kom voor het FIA Formule 3-seizoen in 2023. Het zal een nieuwe omgeving voor me zijn, maar Prema’s geschiedenis geeft genoeg vertrouwen om te kunnen zeggen dat we samen een goed jaar zullen hebben", vertelt de negentienjarige Brit. "De eerste test-indrukken waren goed en de pace was sterk. Ik was bezig om de karakteristieken van de auto te leren kennen en ik heb gefocust om met mijn team en ingenieurs kennis te maken, inclusief het leren van de Italiaanse taal", vertelt O’Sullivan op de website van Prema.

Sportief Directeur van Williams Sven Smeets kijkt ernaar uit om samen met Prema zijn Williams-junior te laten ontwikkelen. "We kijken ernaar om Zak te zien meedoen in zijn tweede Formule 3-seizoen, ditmaal met Prema. Samen met het team gaan we eraan werken om Zak’s talenten naar boven te laten komen. Zak is een belangrijk onderdeel van onze rijdersacademie en hij heeft zijn kwaliteiten gedurende het Formule 3-seizoen laten zien. Ik ben er zeker van dat hij zich snel aan zijn nieuwe omgeving aan zal passen en dat hij een sterke start van 2023 zal hebben", sluit Smeets af.
