Wittmann troeft Merhi nipt af en verovert pole position in Macau

Marco Wittmann vertrekt in de Macau Grand Prix van pole position. En de Duitser profiteerde daarbij niet van de grid penalty van concurrent Roberto Merhi, hij heeft het op eigen kracht verdiend. Wittmann won het prestigeduel in de kwalificatie met 0,064 seconde.

Antonio Felix da Costa reed de derde tijd, maar door de straf van Merhi staat hij wel op de eerste startrij. Valtteri Bottas arriveerde gisteren net op tijd om aan de eerste kwalificatie deel te nemen en verzekerde zich nu knap van de vierde plaats. Alexander Sims completeert de top vijf.

De sessie kende opvallend genoeg geen enkele rode vlag, al raakte Daniel Abt wel de vangrails in Police waarna hij van achteren aangereden werd door Richard Bradley. Hannes van Asseldonk zette de twintigste tijd neer op 1,8 seconde van Wittmann. Laurens Vanthoor klokte de elfde tijd.
