Carlo van Dam heeft titel binnen

Carlo van Dam is afgelopen weekend op de Sachsenring kampioen in het Duitse Formule 3-kampioenschap geworden. De jonge coureur uit Vlaardingen deed dat met een derde plek in race 1 en een zege in de tweede race. Van Dam schaart zich daarmee in een illuster rijtje Nederlanders dat ook in Duitlsand Formule 3-kampioen werd. Jos Verstappen, Christijan Albers en Ho-Pin Tung gingen hem al voor.

Van Dam reisde naar de Sachsenring af met een voorsprong van 31 punten en na de race van zondag was het gat met de enig overgebleven concurrent Frederic Vervisch 32 punten. Met nog één weekend te gaan met een maximaal aantal van 24 punten is de coureur van Van Amersfoort Racing niet meer in te halen. Van Dam pakte dit seizoen tot nu toe 8 overwinningen, 9 pole positions, 6 snelste raceronden en 14 podiumplekken.

Van Dam blikt terug op een uiterst succesvol seizoen: Ik ben superblij dat ik het kampioenschap heb binnengehaald! Ik was dit seizoen verreweg de beste en pakte vandaag overtuigend de overwinning. Ik had een goede start en trok gelijk een gat met de rest. Het werd alleen in de slotfase nog spannend toen ik tijd verloor bij het passeren van enkele langzamere deelnemers. Desondanks kwam mijn overwinning nimmer in gevaar. Ik wil mijn teambaas Frits van Amersfoort en het gehele team met mijn monteurs bedanken voor hun werk en support. Ik heb bijzonder prettig met ze samengewerkt.

Ook is het helemaal top dat ik hier de overwinning samen met veertig man van Legamaster mag vieren. Tenslotte wil ik al mijn sponsoren bedanken. Ze hebben mij dit seizoen ontzettend geholpen. Over twee weken kan ik mijn voorsprong in Oschersleben nog verder uitbouwen, maar eerst gaan we nog een extra fles champagne ontkurken om onze overwinningen te vieren!
