Renault keert definitief terug in de Formule 3

De kogel is door de kerk, Renault gaat na tien jaar afwezigheid in 2014 weer motoren leveren in de Formule 3. Dat is het gevolg van een samenwerking tussen Renault Sport en Oreca. Meerdere teams uit het Europees Formule 3-kampioenschap zullen gebruik maken van de technologie van de Franse autofabrikant. Signature heeft al een comeback aangekondigd met Renault-aandrijving.

Renault Sport-motorsportdirecteur Arnoud Boulanger: "De Formule 3 bezet een speciale plek in de geschiedenis van de autosport en dat de FIA het Europees kampioenschap nieuw leven in heeft geblazen was voor ons het laatste zetje dat we nodig hadden. De band met Oreca roept geweldige herinneringen op, maar ons vizier is ferm op de toekomst gericht en we delen dezelfde grote ambities. Met Formule Renault 1.6, Formule Renault 2.0 en Formule Renault 3.5 hadden we al een mooie ladder richting de Formule 1, maar met de Formule 3 voegen we een mooie tussenstap toe."
