Mclaren neemt inboedel van Mercedes over en debuteert in 2023

De kogel is door de kerk: McLaren neemt het Formule E-team over van Mercedes en debuteert in 2023. Wie voor de renstal uit Woking gaat rijden in de Formule E is nog niet bekend.

De overname van het Britse team komt niet als een verrassing. Al geruime tijd flirtte McLaren met het idee om deel te nemen aan de elektrische raceklasse. Nadat Mercedes had aangekondigd afscheid te nemen van deze serie, kreeg McLaren interesse om de inboedel en personeel over te nemen. In februari werd al bevestigd dat er gesprekken gaande waren tussen beide teams.

CEO van McLaren, Zak Brown reageert op Twitter zeer verheugd over het nieuwe avontuur: “Ik sta te popelen om met dit fantastische team een nieuwe serie races te rijden, onze reis naar duurzaamheid voort te zetten en nieuwe fans over de hele wereld te bereiken.”

Op dit moment rijden regerend Nyck de Vries en Stoffel Vandoorne - voormalig F1-coureur bij McLaren - voor Mercedes. Vandoorne verkast in 2023 naar Dragon Racing. Over de Nederlander is nog niet bekend wat zijn plannen zijn voor het volgende seizoen.

E-Prix Berlijn

Het nieuws is bekend gemaakt in het weekend van de E-Prix van Berlijn, waar ronde 7 en 8 van het Formule E-kampioenschap wordt gereden. De eerste van twee races begint zometeen, op zaterdagmiddag om 15.04 uur Nederlandse tijd. Edoardo Mortara start vanaf pole. De Vries en Robin Frijns starten buiten de top tien op plaats 12 en 18.

Goede set. Alvast wat data verzamelen voor 2026 hoe je 350kwh managed.

Neh ik denk niet dat je veel aan deze data hebt, maar het is een redelijk goedkope klasse dat prima uit kan. Het F1 budget moest van 250 mil naar 145 mil dus die 15 mil extra betalen voor een alternatieve doelgroep is natuurlijk makkelijk te doen. En beter te begrijpen dan Extreme E.

Ik zou t wel geinig vinden als Norris en O'ward tijdens een test deze kleine mini autos eens uitproberen.

Tja en dan de coureurs? Vandaag hoorde ik ook de suggestie dat Ricciardo de #1 rijder voor McLaren in de FE gaat worden en dat Nyck Daniel’s F1 stoeltje overneemt. Dat vind ik ook wel een goeie!

  Ik denk Rosenqvist en een al eerdere junior zoals Turvey of Sette Camara.
  
  Mclaren wordt geen factory team en gaat waarschijnlijk met een Nissan powertrain rijden.
  
  Men wil dus liever voor Nissan zelf rijden dan Mclaren. Ook zijn de teams met een DS of Jaguar powertrain meer in trek. Die 8 stoeltjes zijn het meest gewild.
  
  Ze worden ook weer niet het minst gewild zoals NIO bijvoorbeeld...
  
  Voor Richard Verschoor zou dit wel echt een heel mooi plekje zijn... maar dan moet die de F1 droom opgeven.
  
  Rosenqvist en Turvey zou wel erg sterk zijn. 2 talenten die helaas nooit een kans in F1 hebben gekregen.

Als McLaren ook nog interesse heeft in MotoGP, dan kunnen ze daar het team van Suzuki overnemen. Dan ben je wel echt breed actief in de motorsport. :-)

  @Patrick_St zeg dat wel zeg. Niemand begrijpt het ook. Ze lijken vooral dit jaar een enorm verbeterde snelheid te hebben en het stuurgedeelte was al super goed. Misschien wel de meest complete motor op de grid.
  
  En dan na alle investeringen beslissen ze op het moment dat er succes kan komen... dat het genoeg is geweest... heel bizar besluit.
  
  Zegt wel weer dat de top van het bedrijf niks geeft om de bedrijfscultuur. Nog om het personeel van het team om t zo abrupt te stoppen.
