R12: Nederlanders in de punten in New York

Bij de twaalfde E-Prix van dit seizoen in New York scoorden de twee Nederlanders Robin Frijns en regerend kampioen Nyck de Vries punten. Frijns werd zesde en kan na zijn podium van de zaterdag terugkijken op een geslaagd weekend. De Vries finishte vlak daarachter en het scheelde een haartje of een DNF kwam achter zijn naam te staan. De Mercedes-EQ-coureur ging bijna de muur in, maar hield knap zijn bolide uit de barrière.

De wedstrijd werd gewonnen door Antonio Felix da Costa. De voormalig kampioen uit Portugal won voor het eerst dit jaar en was uitermate blij met dit resultaat. De DS Techeetah-coureur eindigde voor titelkandidaat Stoffel Vandoorne. De Belg en teamgenoot van De Vries nam door zijn tweede plaats de leiding over in de rangschikking van Eduardo Mortara, die een schamel puntje scoorde. Het podium werd opgevuld door Mitch Evans. De Nieuw-Zeelander verschalkte op het laatste moment Alexander Sims voor het eremetaal. Door de derde plaats schuift Evans op naar de derde plaats in de stand.

De grillige wedstrijd op zaterdag in New York werd gewonnen door Nick Cassidy. Deze E-Prix werd opgeschikt door een megacrash in de slotfase waarbij meerdere bolides door het slechte zicht en de natte baan hard doorschoten.

Vandoorne heeft nu 155 punten op zak, elf punten meer dan Mortara en 15 punten meer dan Evans. Frijns vinden we terug op gepaste afstand op P5 en De Vries op P8, die een titelprolongatie uit zijn hoofd kan zetten met nog vier races voor de boeg.

De volgende E-Prix is in London in het weekend van 30 juli en ook daar wordt een double header afgewerkt.

Lijkt mij dat Drugovich en Piastri voor hem in de rij staan. Als hij al in de rij staat.

  als ik de oranje bril afdoe verdienen die het ook veel meer. Piastri was indrukwekkend in F3 en F2 en Drugovich maakt echt een hele behoorlijke indruk, deed hij in zijn eerste MP jaar ook wel, maar nu is het echt heel goed.
