Blijven Vandoorne en De Vries in Formule E na vertrek Mercedes?

Kersvers kampioen Stoffel Vandoorne en Nyck de Vries staan op straat nadat hun team Mercedes-EQ stopt. Ze moeten op zoek naar een ander stoeltje, maar vooralsnog is er nog niks officieels bekend over hun deelname voor het negende seizoen in het wereldkampioenschap Formule E.

Dubbelprogramma?

De Vries hoopt natuurlijk op een zitje in de Formule 1 en flirt al een tijdje met de sport, mede dankzij zijn rol als reservecoureur van de F1-tak van Mercedes en zijn optredens in twee vrije trainingen dit seizoen.

Eind juni kwam het bericht naar buiten van The Race dat Maserati, dat toetreed tot de Formule E in 2023, interesse heeft in de diensten van de Nederlander. De Vries zou naast FE ook voor Toyota als racecoureur aan de bak gaan in het World Endurance Championship. Dit allemaal zou als gevolg hebben dat de voormalig F2-kampioen het Mercedes-nest definitief verlaat.

Vandoorne rijdt voor Dragon/Penske het volgende seizoen. Althans dat beweert ook The Race. De officiële bevestiging zou deze zomer nog gebeuren. Of heeff Mercedes iets bijzonders te vertellen over de Belgische coureur bij het begin van de herfst?

Bevestigd

De teams van Jaguar, Mahindra en Envision hebben de stoeltjes al gevuld. Enkele rijders hebben al aangegeven weg te gaan uit de Formule E

- Bij Jaguar blijven Mitch Evans, de runner-up van 2022, en Sam Bird.

- Bij Mahindra komt Lucas di Grassi over van Venturi Racing (dat in 2023 doorgaat als Maserati) en neemt de plek in van Alexander Sims die de sport verlaat en vergezeld Oliver Rowland.

- Robin Frijns stopt bij Envision en daar komt Sébastien Buemi voor terug. Nick Cassidy rijdt net als in 2022 voor dit team. Frijns wordt genoemd bij ABT Sportsline, dat terug keert in de elektrische klasse.

- Net als Sims verlaat ook André Lotterer de Formule E en gaat voor het beroemde merk in het WEC rijden in de Hypercars.

- Porsche maakte maandagochtend bekend dat Antonio Felix da Costa is gecontracteerd.

17 stoeltjes

In de Formule E zijn er dus nu officieel 17 zitjes nlg beschikbaar. McLaren, dat volgend jaar debuteert in de FE, heeft waarschijnlijk geen problemen om goede coureurs te vinden met een waslijst aan kandidaten.

McLaren zou Rast al hebben vastgelegd, en het andere stoeltje is voor Rosenqvist, tenzij hij in de IndyCar blijft (bij McLaren of een ander team)

  Dan zou Sette Camara een gooie zijn. Rosenqvist wil namelijk niet graag naar FE.
  
  De braziliaan liet mooie dingen zien in een slechte Dragon Penske, maar wordt een beetje gepasseerd in silly season.
