E-Prix Mexico kwalificatie: Frijns op P7, De Vries start als laatste

De eerste polesitter van 2024 is Pascal Wehrlein. De Porsche-coureur versloeg Sebastian Buemi op het Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit en start voor de E-Prix van Mexico dus helemaal vooraan. Het is voor hem al de derde pole op dit parcours.

De twee Nederlanders in het veld hadden uiteindelijk een bijrol in de strijd om de voorste posities. Robin Frijns was het snelst in de groepsfase, maar een fout verpestte een mooiere klassering voor de Nederlander. P7 is wat resteerde. De Vries kon helemaal geen vuist maken met zijn Mahindra Racing-bolide in groep B en start vanavond als laatste. Regerend kampioen Jake Dennis nam ook afscheid na het eerste segment.

Na de groepsfase bleven acht coureurs - waaronder Frijns - over die in een knock-out-fase gingen uitvechten wie vandoor ging met de pole. Frijns moest het opnemen tegen voormalig F1-coureur Pascal Wehrlein.

De Nederlander was de favoriet in het tweeluik met Wehrlein, echter hij maakte een kostbare fout in de eerste bocht en daarmee was de kans op pole in een klap verdwenen.

De finale ging tussen Wehrlein en de teamgenoot van Frijns bij Envision, Sebastian Buemi. Wehrlein had eerder al tweemaal pole gescoord in Mexico en Buemi nog nooit.

Buemi had een sterke halve finale, maar kon het kunstje niet herhalen in de finale tegen Wehrlein. Zijn opponent was daarin toch de sterkere van de twee.

Ik probeer het ieder seizoen wel weer een keer maar ik ben er steeds snel klaar mee, dat gezoem en gepiep vind ik niets.

Wel leuke acties af en toe maar toch, ik haak meestal na 1 race weer af.

  Zelfs daar ben ik mee gestopt, Patrick. Ik probeerde elk seizoen wel een race. Maar na de derde keer mee gestopt. Gewoonweg niet mijn ding.
  
  Zie hierboven dat koppie toe f3 en f2 kijk. Maar ook daar kijk ik niet meer naar. Als ik hoor dat er een regenrace is geweest, dan probeer ik die terug te kijken. Daar haal ik dan weer wel info uit. De echte racers staan dan altijd wel op. Laatste jaren niet echt rijders gezien die er in de regen echt uitsprongen. Wel een paar die gezien de standen en de starts relatief beter gingen. Zelfs een keer een Nederlander (voor de chauvinisten hier). Kan even niet op zijn naam noemen.

  F2 en F3 volg ik wel als ik tijd heb. Ik zeg er geen dingen voor af maar probeer het zoveel mogelijk te volgen. Ik denk dat je Richard Verschoor bedoelt, hij heeft best een paar leuke races gereden en gaat een leuke carrière in de motorsport tegemoet maar F1 is een stapje te ver denk ik.
