MP Motorsport hevelt Blomqvist over naar eenzitters

Het Nederlandse MP Motorsport heeft de Zweed Isac Blomqvist gecontracteerd als de eerste coureur van de line-up voor de Formule 4 in 2018. De coureur uit Uppsala laat de karts achter zich om in 2018 zijn debuut te maken in de autosport.

Na twee achtereenvolgende titels voor Richard Verschoor en Christian Lundgaard in zowel het SMP NEZ F4 en het Spaanse Formule 4-kampioenschap was MP Motorsport er alles aan gelegen om zijn toppositie in de klasse te behouden - het aantrekken van Isac Blomqvist is daarom de eerste stap in het samenstellen van opnieuw een winnende bezetting voor het komende Formule 4-seizoen.

Blomqvist stapt dit jaar over van de karts naar de formuleauto's. Op nationaal kartniveau maakte de Zweed veel indruk, waarna hij zich de laatste drie jaar ook op Europees niveau manifesteerde.

"Het is geweldig dat ik mijn autosportdebuut mag maken in een vermaard team als MP Motorsport", aldus Blomqvist. "Mijn eerste test in december verliep uitstekend en dat gaf me des te meer motivatie om in 2018 naar de eenzitters over te stappen. Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat ik met de steun van MP het goed kan doen in mijn eerste jaar in de autosport."

"Isac aan de haak slaan is een belangrijk deel van ons plan om in Formule 4 te blijven winnen, net zoals we de voorgaande twee seizoenen hebben gedaan", aldus Sander Dorsman, teammanager van MP Motorsport. "We hebben er alle vertrouwen in dat Isac een steunpilaar wordt in onze aanval op de Formule 4-kampioenschappen, waarin we op jacht gaan naar een derde verzameling titels."

Blomqvist begon zijn kartcarrière in 2011. In 2012 won hij de Zweedse MKR Junior 60-serie en in 2014 de Zuid-Zweedse Kart Champion Cup voor KF Juniors. In 2015 werd hij tweede in het Zweedse KF Junior-kampioenschap. Na zijn CIK-FIA- en WSK-debuut op datzelfde niveau in 2015 stapte Blomqvist in 2016 over op de OK Juniors. Hij werd zevende in de WSK Champions Cup en maakte met twee derde plaatsen in het CIK-FIA-kampioenschap nog kans op de titel tot de laatste ronde in Genk. In 2017 promoveerde Blomqvist naar de OK-klasse.

Het is trouwens wel echt geweldig hoe MP Motorsport de FIA ladder vertegenwoordigd. Er zijn hier heel veel mensen die altijd negatief over dit team spreken (mede natuurlijk door het belabberde optreden van Daniel de Jong), maar we mogen als Nederlanders ontzettend blij zijn dat wij 2 uitstekende opleidingsteams in de juniorenklassen hebben.

Zowel van Amersfoort Racing als MP Motorsport zijn in Europa een serieuze speler als het gaat om doorstroming van talent. Zeker het talent van de lage landen krijgt in dit team een kans.

Overigens gaat Bent Viscaal (goede jonge coureur die vorig jaar echt super reed in de Formule 4 klassen waar MP actief was) dit seizoen zijn geluk beproeven in het Euroformula Open. Een goede beslissing voor Bent, aangezien het een mooie tussenstap is tussen Formule 4 en FIA Formula 3. Met de vereniging van GP3 en FIA Formula 3 in 2019 is dit een uitstekende opstapklasse om aan de circuits en de snelheid te wennen. Wat dat betreft heeft Bent een uitstekende keuze gemaakt en zal uitkomen voor Teo Martin Motorsport. Het team waar Beitske WS 3.5 V8 voor reed in haar laatste jaar.
