VAR contracteert een voormalig dressuurruiter

Van Amersfoort Racing heeft een nieuwe naam uit de line-up voor het Formule 4-team voor komend seizoen bekendgemaakt. Het gaat om de 21-jarige Lucas Alecco Roy. De Duitser zal dit jaar voor Van Amersfoort Racing in het Duits Formule 4-kampioenschap uitkomen.

Op zich geen bijzonder verhaal, behalve dat Lucas Alecco Roy tot vijftien maanden geleden nog aan paardensport deed. Hij was gespecialiseerd in het onderdeel dressuur, maar besloot om het roer om te gooien en te gaan voor een carrière in de autosport.

Hij had nooit in de karts geracet of aan andere vormen van autosport gereden toen hij vorig jaar in het Brits Formule 4-kampioenschap debuteerde. In zijn eerste seizoen scoorde Alecco Roy punten en in de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten behaalde hij zelfs de vijfde plaats in het regionale Formule 4-kampioenschap.

Voor Van Amersfoort Racing aanleiding om de 21-jarige Duitser een kans te geven. Teammanager Jeroen de Jong: "Ik ben al meer dan twee decennia in de autosport actief, maar de route die Lucas heeft afgelegd om hier te komen heb ik nog nooit eerder meegemaakt. Het geeft zijn passie voor racen weer."

"We zullen al onze ervaring aanspreken om hem te helpen om zo snel mogelijk aansluiting te vinden bij de meer ervaren concurrentie. Tijdens de simulatorsessies in de winter heeft Lucas duidelijk progressie geboekt en belangrijker nog, hij toonde de toewijding om te leren en zichzelf te verbeteren. Een veelbelovende aanpak die wij zeer op prijs stellen."

Ik ga ook solliciteren bij VAR, ik heb zelden in karts gereden, 1 keer F3 op zandvoort tijdens de een cursus, en toen werd ik ook vijfde. (van de zes) Maar ik heb ook heel lang met honden getraind, dus dat is natuurlijk bizar wat ik bereikt heb. Dus een kans verdien ik zeker..!
