Orudzhev wint eerste race Paul Ricard, Visser in de punten

Egor Orudzhev heeft de eerste van twee races in het Formule V8-weekend op Paul Ricard gewonnen. De Rus startte als derde en pakte meteen de leiding. Matthieu Vaxiviere pakte de leiding al snel terug, maar viel halverwege de race terug. Nissany finishte als tweede voor Rene Binder.

De veertien heren en een dame hadden vijf weken voor het laatst geracet. Spa-Franchorchamps was toen het strijdtoneel en sommige coureurs gingen daar aardig over de schreef. In Paul Ricard gedroeg men zich keurig. De race kende dan ook maar twee uitvallers.

Aan kop ging de strijd lange tijd tussen Orudzhev en Vaxiviere. Vaxiviere had pole getraind, werd bij de straf afgetroefd door Orudzhev maar stelde al snel orde op zaken. Toch lukte het de Fransman niet om Orudzhev van zich af te schudden. De SMP-coureur bleef maar aandringen en pakte uiteindelijk de leiding terug. Vaxiviere kon het tempo daarna niet meer volgen en viel uiteindelijk zelfs buiten het podium.

Orudzhev dacht na de leiding gepakt te hebben een gemakkelijke race te hebben, maar niets was minder waar. Lotus Charouz-coureur Roy Nissany maakte het Orudzhev behoorlijk lastig. De coureur uit Israël probeerde het twee rondjes voor het einde met een gewaagde actie, maar dat eindigde bijna in een crash tussen de leiders.

Orudzhev won dus voor Nissany en Rene Binder. Binder kende na het verschalken van Vaxiviere een rustig einde van de race. Achter Binder finishte Tom Dillmann, leider in het kampioenschap. Vaxiviere werd vijfde voor Deletraz.

Beitske Visser eindigde waar ze gestart was: negende. De Nederlandse scoorde daarmee weer wat punten en staat voorlopig op een twaalfde plaats in het kampioenschap. De tweede race op Paul Ricard begint vanmiddag om 15:10 uur.
