Deletraz pakt overwinning in tweede race, Visser tiende

Fortec-coureur Louis Deletraz heeft de tweede race van het Formule V8-weekend op Paul Ricard gewonnen. De Zwitser startte de race als derde en wist dankzij een slimme strategie polesitter Roy Nissany en Ogur Orudzhev te verschalken. Beitske Visser kwam als tiende over de meet, een plekje voor haar Japanse teamgenoot Kanamaru.

Deletraz hanteerde in de eerste fase een conservatieve aanpak en dat betaalde zich uit. De Fortec-coureur stopte eerder dan de leiders en wist Orudzhev en Nissany na hun stops te pakken door zijn goede racesnelheid.

Orudzhev en Nissany reden door tot ronde dertien en veertien. Nissany kwam als tweede terug op de baan maar lag toen al meer dan zes seconden achter Deletraz. Orudzhev wist Nissany bij het uitkomen van de pits bijna te verschalken, maar de Lotus Charouz-coureur hield stand.

Deletraz slaagde er vooraan in de race te controleren en liet Nissany langzaam dichterbij komen. Uiteindelijk hield de Zwitser bijna drie seconden over aan de finish. Aurelien Panis finishte net buiten het podium op de vierde plek voor Binder en Dillmann.

Dillmann, de leider in het kampioenschap, kende een lastig weekend in Zuid-Frankrijk en behaalde slechts een zesde plaats in de race twee, na een dag eerder op plek zeven te zijn gefinisht. De voorsprong van Dillmann ten opzichte van Deletraz is met 22 punten geslonken.

De volgende races in de Formule V8 zijn in het weekend van 23 en 24 juli op het circuit van Silverstone.
