Fittipaldi op pole voor eerste race Monza

Pietro Fittipaldi heeft zijn kwaliteiten wederom laten zien in de kwalificatie. De Braziliaan start de eerste race van het Formule V8-weekend van pole, alweer de vierde van het seizoen. De kwalificatie werd verreden in wisselende weersomstandigheden en dat zorgde voor flink wat incidenten.

Na vorige weekend te hebben gereden op Spa-Francorchamps, rijden de coureurs in de Formule V8 dit weekend alweer hun derde weekend van het seizoen. Nadat de heren hun eerste runs reden op een vochtige baan werd de baan even droog genoeg voor slicks, maar in de slotfase begon het weer te regenen. Rene Binder werd slachtoffer van de lastige omstandigheden en parkeerde zijn bolide in de banden in de Parabolica. Ook kampioenschapsleider Alfonso Celis Jr. en Nelson Mason schoten eraf.

De wedstrijdleiding besloot de sessie even later stop te zetten en dat zorgde voor een pole voor Fittipaldi, met Roy Nissany als tweede. Rene Binder start ondanks zijn crash als derde, voor Matevos Isaakyan. Yu Kanamaru, de teamgenoot van Beitske Visser vorig jaar, kwalificeerde zich als vijfde.

Kampioenschapsleider Celis Jr. zal aan de bak moeten vanaf een zevende startplaats, teamgenoot Diego Menchaca start slechts als tiende. De kwalificatie voor de tweede race begint straks om 11:30, gevolgd door de eerste race om 15:15 uur. Race twee wordt morgen verreden om 11:45 uur.
