Verschoor beste rookie in Paul Ricard

De Formule Renault 2.0 Eurocup test deze week op het circuit van Paul Ricard. Op de eerste dag was Will Palmer de snelste met een 2:04.385. Het broertje van Formule 1-coureur Jolyon Palmer was vier tienden sneller dan wie dan ook. Max Defourny en Robert Shwartzman legden beslag op respectievelijk de tweede en de derde plaats.

Richard Verschoor eindigde met een 2:05.248 als beste Nederlander en beste rookie. "Paul Ricard is een lastig circuit om onder de knie te krijgen. Ik heb een hoop geleerd en geleidelijk steeds meer dingen bij elkaar gebracht. Ik kan niet wachten om deze ervaring in de praktijk te brengen en aansluiting te vinden bij de leiders."

Over komend seizoen zegt hij: "Ik ben niet gefixeerd op een bepaalde doelstelling. Zoals elke coureur wil ik races winnen. Dat wordt lastig, maar we gaan er wel ons best voor doen. Ondanks het feit dat MP Motorsport een jaartje weg is geweest beschikt het team wel over veel ervaring. Daarom heb ik het volste vertrouwen in hun capaciteiten."

Teamgenoot Jarno Opmeer klokte een 2:05.552 op Paul Ricard en legde daarmee beslag op de negende plaats.
