Verschoor: "Moet die fouten niet maken"

Richard Verschoor had voorafgaand aan het Formule Renault 2.0 Eurocup-weekend op Silverstone aangekondigd strenger voor zichzelf te zijn. Die woorden bracht hij na afloop in de praktijk. Ondanks een zesde en zevende plaats als oogst was de jonge Nederlander niet tevreden. Vooral een fout in de openingsfase van de tweede race zat hem niet lekker.

Verschoor: "Het ging niet verkeerd, maar ik wil meer. Silverstone is een lastige baan om onder de knie te krijgen. Zelfs de jongens met meer ervaring dan ik hadden moeite om zich aan te passen en voor een rookie als mij is het zeer moeilijk. Ik heb al stappen gezet, dat kun je zien aan het verschil tussen de vrije trainingen en de kwalificatie. Het zit echter zo dicht bij elkaar, een paar honderdsten van een seconde maakt een groot verschil voor je startpositie."

"Als ik geen fout had gemaakt in de kwalificatie op zondag, zou ik hoger op de startopstelling hebben gestaan, en na een foutje vroeg in de wedstrijd verloor ik drie plaatsen. Ondanks dat ik ze best snel terug wist te pakken zou ik die fouten in de eerste plaats gewoon niet moeten maken. Ik moet me verbeteren en ik denk dat we ook nog meer uit de auto kunnen halen. Het was geen slecht weekend, maar het kan absoluut beter."

Hij bezet na vier races in het seizoen 2017 de zevende plaats in het kampioenschap met 21 punten. Vooraan gaat de strijd tussen R-ace GP-teamgenoten Will Palmer en Robert Shwartzman, die allebei twee keer hebben gewonnen dit jaar. Jarno Opmeer bleef in Silverstone puntloos en wacht nog op zijn eerste punten in de Formule Renault 2.0 Eurocup.
