Yifei Ye profileert zich steeds meer als iemand om komend seizoen ernstig in de gaten te houden in de Formule Renault 2.0 Eurocup. De jonge Chinees uit de opleiding van Renault is tijdens de tests constant snel en vestigde op de tweede dag van de testsessie op Paul Ricard een nieuw baanrecord voor de Formule Renault 2.0.

Hij ging rond in 2:00.992 en was de enige die onder de 2:01 dook. Achter hem legde Max Fewtrell met een 2:01.067 beslag op de tweede plaats, terwijl rookie Logan Sargeant de top drie completeerde met een 2:01.108. Richard Verschoor liet met een 2:01.403 de zevende tijd van de dag noteren.

Fewtrell zei na afloop: "Hoewel we volledig bezig waren met ons eigen programma, zat de snelheid er getuige mijn tweede tijd al goed in. Het is jammer dat er een rode vlag was in onze stint op nieuwe banden, want ik ging een halve tiende sneller dan ik in de simulator ben geweest. We hebben nog wat werk te doen en er is altijd ruimte voor verbetering, maar we zijn op de goede weg."

De volgende Formule Renault 2.0 Eurocup-test vindt op 4 en 5 april plaats op de Nürburgring.
