Formula Renault 3.5 gaat voortaan door het leven als Formula 3.5 V8

De Formula Renault 3.5 verandert volgend jaar van naam. De klasse zal na het terugtrekken van Renault verder gaan als de Formula 3.5 V8.

Afgelopen weekend won Nyck de Vries de laatste wedstrijd van de Formula Renault 3.5. Renault maakte eerder al bekend te stoppen als naamgever van de raceklasse. De eerste race van de Formula 3.5 V8 zal in het weekend van 16 en 17 april worden verreden op het circuit van Aragon in Spanje. Verder staan er races op de Hungaroring, Spa-Francorchamps,  Paul Ricard, Silverstone, Red Bull Ring, Monza en Barcelona op het programma en zal het seizoen eindigen op 6 november in Jerez. De races op de Hungaroring, Paul Ricard en Red Bull Ring zijn nog onder voorbehoud.

“We werken aan een kalender die de coureurs het beste kan voorbereiden op een vervolg van hun loopbaan. Daar ligt onze prioriteit”, vertelt Jaime Alguersuari Sr, promotor van de klasse en vader van voormalig Toro Rosso-coureur Jaime Alguersuari.

De eerste tests van de nieuwe klasse zal deze week al plaatsvinden op het circuit van Jerez.

De klasse zal volgend jaar twee nieuwe teams verwelkomen. Spirit of Race team neemt het startbewijs van Draco Racing over. Team Lazarus maakt de overstap vanuit de GP2.

DAMS heeft besloten de klasse te verlaten en richt zich in plaats daarvan op de GP3. DAMS pakte in 2013 en 2014 de titel in de Formule Renault 3.5 met Kevin Magnussen en Carlos Sainz Jr. DAMS Team manager Francois Sicard: “Ik wil de hele organisatie van de World Series by Renault bedanken. We hebben fantastische jaren gehad en vele overwinningen behaald. DAMS richt zich nu op andere klassen met de hoop dezelfde successen te kunnen boeken.”

    Moet maar snel een naamsponsor komen voor deze klasse en het vermogen plus snelheid minimaal naar GP2 niveau.

    De juiste reclame er omheen enz. en het kan wat worden. RedBull als hoofdsponsor misschien? Gp2 is niet heilig meer zou ik zeggen, wat heilig moet zijn is de kwaliteit van de rijder!

      toch rijden er meer GP2 kampioenen in de F1 dan FR3.5 kampioenen

      Je hebt gelijk, maar als je naar het lijstje notable drivers kijkt op de wiki pagina van Formula 3.5 V8, dan komen daar een flink aantal zéér gerespecteerde coureurs langs. Ik noem een Alonso, Vettel, Kubica. GP2 heeft al jaren het stempel van rijkeluiskampioenschap, Maldonado heeft er maar 4 seizoenen over gedaan om eens die titel te scoren.

    nee, geen Formule Renault 3.5 V8, Renault doet niet meer mee nu.

    Het grappige is, hoewel Renault wel technische input leverde bij het updaten van de auto's, zijn de motoren altijd de Zytek Gibson V8 blokken gebleven die ze al in de World Series by Nissan hadden.

    Aantal licentiepunten staat nu op 35 tegenover de 40 voor een GP2, Gp3 of F3, dus ik vrees dat je nu alleen de coureurs overhoudt die in deze klasse niet meer terecht kunnen.

    Uit een 3.5 ltr V8 is makkelijk 1000 pk te persen, die dingen zouden veel sneller kunnen zijn als de huidige F1, ik zeg "kunnen zijn"

      kunnen zijn idd, zijn namelijk nog dezelfde Zytek Gibson V8 motoren die ze al gebruikten toen het nog World Series by Nissan was. Enige waar Renault zich mee bemoeide was de onderliggende techniek.

      Nou, makkelijk, pfff, volgens mij heb je werkelijk geen benul van wat het kost om zoveel PK's uit een atmosferisch blok te persen. Als het al gehaald wordt, want de F1 vroeger kwamen ze nooit aan die vermogens. Slagvolume is te weinig om zonder drukvulling er genoeg lucht in te krijgen om de hoeveelheid benzine te verbranden. Qua toerentallen zul je richting de 20.000 moeten om rond de 800 Pk uit te komen met deze blokken. En dan gaan ze stuk en wordt het weer duur.
      Het is technisch makkelijker om uit de V6 turbo uit de F1 rond de 1.000Pk te persen als uit een 3.5 V8 atmosferisch. In F1 draaien ze nu maar rond de 10.500 rpm, terwijl 16.000 makkelijk kan, maar dan haal je de fuel flow niet. Als ze dat vrij geven en de hoeveelheid peut per race ook dan schieten de vermogens omhoog. (en gaan ze weer veel te hard)
      Blijft lastige materie...:-)

    Misschien Formula Red Bull 3.5? Red Bull wilde misschien een eigen race klasse beginnen om tegen F1 te concurreren. Basis ligt er dan al en ik denk dat Red Bull wel iets groots kan opbouwen hiermee.

    Moet je lekker doen . Al die bul... Kampioenschappen slaan nergens op .Gewoon meteen uit een kart en in een formule auto. Formule,ford en dan F3. F2. F1 Punt.

    Weinig over Nyck de Vries die met een prima slotweekend een prima debuutjaar bekroond. Beste rookie en zijn zeer ervaren en als zeer talentvol bekend staande teamgenoot verslagen. Stoneman had weliswaar de nodige tegenslag, maar Nyck was goed constant bleef uit de problemen en heeft het gewoon erg goed gedaan.

    Ben benieuwd wat hem dit volgend jaar gaat brengen!

    Jammer dat Zandvoort deze klasse niet heeft kunnen aantrekken voor komend seizoen. Zou heel gaaf zijn geweest, en zou flink wat publiek trekken. Het zou het dichtst bij een GP op Zandvoort komen.
