Vaxiviere en Atoev tekenen bij Spirit of Race

In 2016 debuteert er een nieuw team in de Formula 3.5 V8: Spirit of Race. Het team maakte de plannen voor komend seizoen bekend in Moskou. De Russische bank SMP wordt een van de sponsoren en daarnaast maakte men bekend dat Matthieu Vaxiviere en de Rus Vladimir Atoev racen voor het team.

Atoev is nog maar 16 jaar oud en reed vorig jaar in het door SMP gesponsorde Noord-Europese Formule 4 kampioenschap. Atoev werd tweede in dat kampioenschap. De keuze voor Vaxiviere is logisch: de Fransman reed vorig jaar al in de serie en kent de wagens. Tijdens de eerste test van Spirit of Race in oktober reed Vaxiviere meteen de snelste tijd en de ervaring van Vaxiviere moet het team helpen in de ontwikkeling.

SMP en Spirit of Race zijn geen onbekenden van elkaar. SMP sponsorde het team afgelopen seizoen in de GTE AM-klasse waar het team uitkwam met een Ferrari Corse. Met die wagen won het team de 24 uur van Le Mans in de GTE AM-klasse
