Van der Garde opent weekend in Imola met eerste plek

Giedo van der Garde is sterk begonnen aan het tweede GP2 Asia Series-weekend. De Nederlandse coureur van Barwa Addax noteerde in de eerste training de snelste tijd op het circuit van Imola. Mikhail Aleshin op positie twee gaf bijna drie tienden van een seconde toe.

Fabio Leimer, Jolyon Palmer en Esteban Gutierrez completeren de top vijf. Romain Grosjean viel in de slotfase stil in bocht 6. Marcus Ericsson parkeerde eerder zijn wagen in bocht 5. De Asia Series strijkt dit weekend neer in Imola omdat de twee geplande evenementen in Bahrein niet door konden gaan vanwege de instabiele situatie daar. Het kampioenschap heeft daardoor alleen een weekend in Abu Dhabi achter de rug en Jules Bianchi voert de tussenstand aan met twaalf punten. Van der Garde staat zevende met vier punten.
