Kamui Kobayashi tekent bij DAMS

Toyota-testcoureur Kamui Kobyashi neemt volgend jaar de plek van Kazuki Nakajima bij het GP2-team van DAMS in. Nakajima (foto) gaat racen in de Formule 1 voor Williams na een vijfde plek in zijn debuutjaar in de GP2. Hij wordt opgevolgd door een andere protegé van Toyota. Kobayashi reed dit jaar nog in de Formule 3 Euroseries.

Ik verheug me er op om te gaan racen in de GP2 voor DAMS, vertelt de Japanner. We hebben al samengewerkt bij tests in Jerez en Paul Ricard en we hebben dus al een relatie opgebouwd. Bij die tests hebben we meerdere afstellingen uitgeprobeerd om te kijken wat het beste bij mijn rijstijl past. Het wordt een drukke periode, want naast de reguliere tests gaat de Asia Serie van GP2 ook beginnen. Ik hou echter wel van een uitdaging en ik heb er zin in.

DAMS-teambaas Jean-Paul Driot: Het is me een genoegen om voor het derde jaar op een rij iemand uit het Toyota Drivers Programma voor ons te team te laten rijden. We hebben een geweldig jaar achter de rug, met als hoogtepunt de overstap van Nakajima naar de Formule 1.
