Trust gaat van sponsor naar opleidingsinstituut

Trust-baas Michel Perridon wil nooit meer direct geld steken in een Formule 1-zitje voor een Nederlander. De ondernemer is dit jaar met zijn bedrijf titelsponsor van het GP2-team van Arden en wil op die manier jonge Nederlandse talenten opleiden voor de koningsklasse van de autosport. Trust sponsorde Jos Verstappen en Christijan Albers in de Formule 1.

Perridon: In de afgelopen jaren heb ik geleerd dat een coureur niet moet betalen voor zijn racestoeltje, maar via overwinningen in de GP2 een uitnodiging moet krijgen voor de Formule 1. Een van de voornaamste doelen van onze samenwerking met Arden is om een Nederlander de kans te geven in de GP2 zodat ze zichzelf kunnen bewijzen en het uiteindelijk tot de Formule 1 schoppen.

Voor dit jaar viel de keuze op Yelmer Buurman die vorig seizoen nog in de Formule 3 Euroseries reed. Perridon: Yelmer was van alle beschikbare kandidaten de enige die klaar is voor dit niveau. Hij heeft vorig jaar bewezen snel te zijn en hij heeft het goed gedaan bij de GP2-testsessie op het circuit van Dubai. Het is moeilijk te voorspellen hoe hij het gaat doen, maar het is mooi om te horen dat teambaas Christian Horner na die test positief verrast was.

Wat moet er dit jaar gebeuren wil de Trust-directeur tevreden terugkijken? Ik wil af en toe op het podium eindigen en ik hoop dit jaar het Nederlandse volkslied te horen.
