Davide Valsecchi ongedeerd na kwalificatiecrash

Davide Valsecchi heeft geen verwondingen overgehouden aan zijn crash in de kwalificatie van de GP2 in Istanbul Park. Dat werd begin van de avond duidelijk na onderzoeken in het medisch centrum. Valsecchi raakte met 280 km/h van de baan op het rempunt voor bocht 12 en raakte zodanig bekneld in de bandenstapel dat marshalls moeite hadden de coureur te bereiken. Hij zwaaide met zijn armen in de cockpit wat zou kunnen duiden op pijn in zijn rug.

Pole-sitter Giorgio Pantano reed pal achter Valsecchi op het moment van de crash. Pantano: "Ik remde voor de bocht en hij zat ongeveer 10 meter voor me. Ik denk dat hij geen remmen meer had, want hij ging ongelooflijk hard van het circuit af."

Onderzoek in het medisch centrum heeft aangetoond dat Valsecchi geen botbreuken of andere verwondingen heeft opgelopen, maar de coureur zal uit veiligheidsoverwegingen niet deelnemen aan de rest van het GP2-weekeinde.
