Nieuw circuit Algarve locatie voor laatste race 2009

De Algarve International Circuit vormt volgend jaar het strijdtoneel voor het laatste raceweekend van het GP2-seizoen. Het nieuwe circuit in Portugal is komende winter al gastheer voor een testsessie met enkel Formule 1-teams en maakt in 2009 zijn debuut op de GP2-kalender.

GP2-organisator Bruno Michel: Ik ben heel blij dat we de Algarve aan onze kalender kunnen toevoegen. Naast het zijn van een platform voor jonge coureurs die zich goed kunnen ontwikkelen zijn wij ook een serie voor nieuwe circuits die actie op de baan genereren en voldoen aan onze veiligheidseisen. Het Autodromo Internacional do Algarve heeft geweldig werk geleverd met de faciliteiten en ik kijk echt uit naar het eerste evenement op dit circuit.

Circuitdirecteur Paulo Pinheiro: Ik vind het geweldig dat de GP2 ons circuit heeft uitgekozen om volgend jaar het seizoen af te sluiten. Het is beloning voor al ons harde werk in een circuit dat zulke mooie series kan verwelkomen. Het is een grote eer en onze aandacht gaat nu uit naar het afronden van de details voordat we volgend jaar de GP2 mogen ontvangen.
