Van der Garde: "Kunnen weer sterk voor de dag te komen"

Het tweede raceweekend van de GP2 Asia Series begint morgen op het circuit van Dubai. Na een lange pauze mag Giedo van der Garde weer aan de bak. In China ging de kwalificatie met een vijfde tijd goed, maar was het eindresultaat door een haperende versnellingsbak teleurstellend. De Nederlander denkt dat het met de snelheid wel goed komt in Dubai.

Van der Garde: Het is alweer een tijdje geleden dat ik geracet heb, dus ik sta te trappelen. Aangezien veel jongens vorig jaar al een vierdaagse test hebben gehad op dit circuit, hebben ze een voorsprong als het gaat om de kennis van de baan. Daarom zullen we in de vrije training zoveel mogelijk ronden moeten rijden om zoveel mogelijk data binnen te halen. We zullen dus flink aan de bak moeten, maar er is geen reden waarom we niet opnieuw sterk voor de dag kunnen komen.

Ik heb een goed gevoel overgehouden aan mijn eerste race in China. We stonden steeds bij de beste vijf en hoewel de race niet zo lekker liep vanwege een mindere versnellingsbak, hebben we toch flink wat snelheid laten zien. Ik geloof dan ook zeker dat we een sterk weekend tegemoet kunnen zien. Het doel is absoluut om in de top tien te staan. Als we vanaf donderdag gewoon probleemloos kunnen knallen, moet dat goed komen.
