Van der Garde: "Concurrentie wilde vertrouwen opbouwen"

Giedo van der Garde kwam gisteren tijdens de tweede GP2-testdag op het circuit van Paul Ricard niet verder dan een negentiende tijd in de ochtend en een eenentwintigste tijd in de middag. Geen posities om over naar huis te schrijven dus, maar de iSport International-coureur maalt daar niet om. Samen met zijn team werkt hij zijn eigen programma af.

Van der Garde zegt op zijn site: We reden op een andere configuratie van het circuit van Paul Ricard dan gisteren. We testten dan ook de auto zoals hij op de circuits van Spa-Francorchamps en Monza afgesteld zou worden. Dan ben je weliswaar niet snel op dit circuit, maar verzet je wel nuttig werk. Volgens mij wilde de concurrentie vooral even wat zelfvertrouwen opbouwen, want zij stelden de auto vooral af op dit specifieke baantje, waar we komend seizoen niet meer op zullen rijden.

Vandaag testen we weer een andere lay-out, en houden we ons bezig met de set-up zoals we die in Monaco en Hongarije zullen hebben. Hopelijk kunnen we dan alles wat we de afgelopen dagen geleerd hebben bij elkaar zetten, waardoor we ook even echt kunnen knallen.

Racing Engineering leverde de tweede dag de snelste tijden af. Lucas di Grassi was met een 1:08.841 een tiende sneller dan teamgenoot Dani Clos.
