Van der Garde tevreden ondanks achterhoedeplek

Giedo van der Garde eindigde gisteren op gepaste afstand van de snelste man Lucas di Grassi als negentiende bij de eerste GP2-testdag op het circuit van Barcelona. Van der Garde had daar ook wel een verklaring voor. De iSport International reed vrijwel de hele dag op oude banden. En eenmaal op nieuw rubber ging het mis in de laatste sector. Desondanks is de Nederlander tevreden met zijn testdag.

Op zijn site zegt hij: Prima dagje. We hebben eigenlijk alleen maar oude banden getest en dat ging gewoon goed. De auto was bijzonder snel op het gebruikte rubber en dat geeft veel vertrouwen. Het betekent namelijk dat je racesnelheid in orde is. De auto was ook bijzonder constant, weinig verschil in rondetijden over een langere run. Het Circuit de Catalunya is een veel betere graadmeter voor de auto's dan dat van Paul Ricard, waar we twee weken geleden reden. Dat het hier zo goed gaat op oude banden is dus een prima voorteken.

Aan het einde van de dag wilden we een run doen met nieuwe banden en halverwege de ronde was ik ook erg snel onderweg, natuurlijk flink wat sneller dan op oud rubber. Helaas spinde ik in de laatste sector, waardoor we die snelle tijd niet zien staan op de tijdenlijst. De auto had geen schade, dus er was niks aan de hand. Ook dat hoort bij testen, soms moet je de limiet van de auto even opzoeken. Vandaag gaan we gewoon weer verder, ik heb er nu al weer zin in.
