Van der Garde: "Mijn motor komt topsnelheid te kort"

Voor Giedo van der Garde is het GP2 Asia Series-weekend op het circuit van Sepang begonnen met een zeventiende tijd in de vrije training. De iSport International-coureur voorziet een zwaar weekend in Maleisië. Niet alleen omdat de weersomstandigheden daar voor een extra uitdaging zorgen, maar zijn motor levert ook niet genoeg vermogen.

Van der Garde: "Het is hier momenteel bloedheet en er staat geen zuchtje wind. Ik heb gisteren een rondje gefietst over het circuit en kwam onder het zweet weer terug. We zijn maandag al aangekomen, zodat we goed konden wennen aan de omstandigheden hier. Ik heb zodoende een prima voorbereiding gehad op de races van komend weekend.

Hopelijk kan ik meekomen met de top acht. Mijn motor komt topsnelheid te kort, zoals ook al zichtbaar was in Dubai en Qatar, maar daar moeten we het mee doen. Het regent hier regelmatig en flink hard en ik denk dat een regenbui goed van pas zou komen in de race. Dan heb je minder belang bij een sterke motor en meer bij je rijkunsten.
