Palmer stelt titel veilig door overwinning in Rusland

Jolyon Palmer is de GP2-kampioen van 2014. De Brit won de eerste race in Rusland en hierdoor is hij niet meer in te halen door de concurrentie. Mitch Evans en Raffaele Marciello bezetten de overige twee plekjes op het podium.

Aanvankelijk leek het erop dat Stoffel Vandoorne er met de overwinning vandoor zou gaan. De Belg had echter pech toen de safety car de baan op kwam en velen hun verplichte pitsstop maakten. Vandoorne was hiervoor net te laat en daardoor verloor hij tijd op de concurrentie. De Belg zou uiteindelijk als vijfde over de streep komen.

Felipe Nasr kende een ongelukkige middag in Rusland. De Braziliaan startte de race in de hoop Palmer nog te kunnen bedreigen voor de titel, maar twee doorrijstraffen gooide roet in het eten. Nasr eindigde ver buiten de punten en dankzij de overwinning van Palmer was het kampioenschap beslist in het voordeel van de Brit.

Vroeger maakte de GP2-kampioen regelmatig kans op promotie naar de Formule 1, maar of dat er voor Jolyon Palmer ook in zit, is maar de vraag. Zijn naam wordt niet genoemd in het geruchtencircuit, terwijl de naam van Felipe Nasr wel in verband wordt gebracht met verschillende teams, waaronder Lotus en Sauber. Dit heeft onder andere te maken met het aangename sponsorbudget dat de Braziliaan tot zijn beschikking heeft.

Buiten het sponsorbudget heeft Nasr ook meer talent! Wanneer hij vorig jaar aan het eind niet zo veel pech gekend zou hebben was hij wellicht ook al kampioen geworden. Heb de race niet gezien, maar heb begrepen dat de straffen discutabel waren.

Als je 4 jaar nodig hebt om die klasse eens te winnen moet je niet praten over F1.
