Giedo van der Garde: "Dit is mijn laatste kans"

Giedo van der Garde zal volgende week aan zijn tweede seizoen in de GP2 Series beginnen. De Nederlander kende vorig jaar een erg sterk einde van het seizoen en wil met topteam Barwa Addax een gooi doen naar de titel.

Giedo van der Garde kende een moeizaam begin van zijn GP2-carriére in 2009, maar in de tweede seizoenshelft pakte de Nederlanders alsnog drie mooie overwinningen. Na enkele succesvolle tests besloot topteam Barwa Addax, waarmee Vitaly Petrov vorig jaar tweede werd, Van der Garde vast te leggen voor 2010 en het doel voor dit seizoen in duidelijk: het kampioenschap winnen.

"Ik had een geweldig einde van het jaar in 2009. Ik het begin moest ik nog wennen aan de auto, het team en de banden, maar op het midden van het seizoen ging die knop om. We waren erg snel in de races en door mijn drie overwinningen sta ik in een goede positie voor dit jaar. Ik weet nu hoe ik mezelf moet voorbereiden, heb meer ervaring dit jaar en we moeten dit seizoen voor het kampioenschap vechten", vertelde Van der Garde in een interview met F1Badger.

"Addax nam eind vorig jaar contact met me op en vroeg of ik een test in Jerez voor het team wilde rijden. Ik was meteen de allersnelste en ik voelde me beter in deze auto. Vanaf dat moment besloten we om samen te gaan werken. Ik ben erg tevreden met de manier waarop het team werkt en ook onze samenwerking is perfect."

"Het plan was altijd al om nog een jaar GP2 te rijden, maar dit jaar moet het wel gebeuren. Dit zal mijn laatste seizoen in de GP2 zijn, want ik ben ook al 25. Om de titel te winnen moet je meteen vanaf het begin punten scoren en overwinningen pakken. Ik zal er hard voor vechten om de titel te pakken, ik train erg hard en ben er elke dag 24 uur mee bezig", aldus Giedo van der Garde.
