Vandoorne pakt derde pole van het seizoen

Stoffel Vandoorne heeft op de Red Bull Ring zijn derde pole in vier wedstrijden in de GP2 gepakt. De McLaren-junior van ART Grand Prix bleef in de kwalificatie zijn teamgenoot Nobuharu Matsushita voor.

De pole position van Vandoorne is zijn zevende in zijn carrière in de GP2 en dat is een recordaantal. Net als in Bahrein zette zijn teamgenoot de tweede tijd neer, waarmee ART Grand Prix wederom de eerste rij claimt.

Het begin van de kwalificatie werd een strijd tussen Sergey Sirotkin en Vandoorne. In de laatste tien minuten ging Vandoorne met een 1:14.174 twee tienden sneller dan Sirotkin, terwijl zowel Matsushita als Pierre Gasly nog sneller gingen dan Sirotkin. Rio Haryanto, de winnaar van de sprintrace in Bahrein, rondde de top vijf af.

De eerste race van de GP2 in de Oostenrijkse Alpen is om 15.40 uur.
