Promotie voor Mardenborough binnen Carlin

Jann Mardenborough maakt dit weekend op Monza zijn debuut in de GP2 aan de zijde van Julian Leal bij Carlin. De Brit stond al bij dat team onder contract in de GP3, maar hij is voor de races op Monza gepromoveerd naar het voorportaal van de Formule 1 als vervanger van Sean Gelael, die verplichtingen in de World Series by Renault heeft.

Mardenborough: "Ten eerste wil ik kwijt dat ik extreem opgewonden ben over het vooruitzicht om voor het eerst een GP2-bolide te besturen, dit was een kans die ik niet af kon slaan. Ik heb de intentie om in de toekomst in de GP2 te racen, dan zal deze ervaring van pas komen. Ik hoop dat ik competitief ben, maar de GP2 is wel een andere uitdaging dan de GP3, met DRS en twee verschillende bandencompounds, evenals langere races en pitstops, al ben ik daar bekend mee vanuit de sportscars. Het is een grote stap, maar ik ga alles geven."

Het is toch geweldig dat die Nissan GT Academy jongens achter hun pc weg kan trekken en om kan toveren tot professionele coureurs! Er zijn er meerdere nu die gewoon als professioneel coureur aan de slag zijn in het WEC en deze jongen in het GP3 en nu GP2.
