Cecotto Jr. beëindigt autosportcarrière na wegvallen overheidssteun

Johnny Cecotto Jr. heeft zijn autosportcarrière beëindigd. De Venezolaan reed verschillende seizoenen in het GP2-kampioenschap en reed in 104 races in totaal vier zeges bij elkaar. Cecotto was echter ook regelmatig betrokken bij incidenten of ongelukken.

Op Twitter verkondigde Cecotto dat hij zijn helm aan de wilgen hangt.  "Ik dank alle Venezolanen die mij gesteund hebben. Vandaag is mijn loopbaan geëindigd, zonder dat ik een bericht heb gekregen van President Nicolas Maduro."

Cecotto reed jarenlang rond met de steun van verschillende Venezolaanse staatsbedrijven, waaronder PDVSA. Door het wegvallen van deze sponsoring, is het voor Cecotto niet langer mogelijk om een stoeltje te vinden.

      Denk niet dat ze in andere raceklassen op iemand als Cecotto Jr. zitten te wachten zonder zijn geld.

    Momenten van briljant rijden veelal afwisselen met momenten van complete stupiditeit.

    Hij had eerder voor een alternatief moeten kiezen en niet de carrière van zijn vader proberen na te streven. Alhoewel DTM ook een mooie opvolging was geweest!

    werd tijd dat hij oppakte, reed geen deuk in een pakje boter. dit was toch dezelfde gast die op 1 stond na een training in de F1 door een opdrogende baan in een Midland of Spyker?
