Matsushita blijft met titelaspiraties bij ART

Nobuharu Matsushita verdedigt ook komend seizoen de eer van ART Grand Prix in de GP2. De 22-jarige Japanner, protegé van Honda, reed vorig jaar ook al voor dat team, maar stond toen in de schaduw van de latere kampioen Stoffel Vandoorne. In 2016 gaat hij zelf voor de titel.

Matsushita: "Ik wil Honda en ART Grand Prix bedanken voor deze mogelijkheid om te blijven racen in de GP2. ART schreef vorig jaar beide kampioenschappen op haar naam en het is een hele eer om onderdeel uit te maken van zo'n geweldig team. Als lid van het Honda Formula Dream Project, gericht op het opleiden van coureurs van wereldklasse, ga ik mijn best doen om ART aan de titels te helpen in mijn tweede seizoen in de GP2."

Sergey Sirotkin is in 2016 de andere coureur van ART Grand Prix in de GP2.

Tracht al eens voor een Top 5 eindklassement te gaan.
Sirotkin met de andere ART schat ik iets hoger in. Weer Top 3 ?

    Jammer, had liever Ocon (GP3 kampioen), Kirchhofer (reed in 2015 bij ART GP3 en werdt 3de in het kampioenschap) of Frijns (do we need to say more) in dat zitje zien belanden.
    Ook dacht ik dat Nyck de Vries een betere optie was geweest (dankzij zijn Mclaren contract was het ook niet onlogisch geweest als hij bij ART terecht zou komen).

    Uiteraard is Nobuharu Matsushita geen slechte rijder, je wordt niet voor niets F3 kampioen in Japan, en Honda zal wel achter deze beslissing zitten.
    Daarom is de beslissing om Sirotkin in te lijven ook niet goed te begrijpen (naast het feit dat ie flink wat roebels mee neemt.) Er waren al met al flink wat "betere" opties voor ART naar mijn mening...

    Ben wel benieuwd wat er gebeurd wanneer Matsushita daadwerkelijk de GP2 titel wint. Wat voor impact heeft dat dan weer voor de kansen van Stoffel? Het lijkt met ook sterk dat het hem lukt overigens, maar hij heeft niet voor niets in z'n eerste jaar een paar podiums en een overwinning gepakt.

    Goed voor Matsushita! Heeft dat bijzonder goed gedaan vorig jaar. Zeker in de wetenschap dat hij voordien op nog geen enkel Europees circuit had gereden, een nieuwe klasse moest leren kennen alsook een volledig nieuwe cultuur. Om van die kl*tebanden nog maar te zwijgen. Ik vind het een potentiele kandidaat voor de titel. Top 3 moet hij minstens aankunnen.

    Het zou wel eens een open kampioenschap kunnen worden in 2016. Matsushita, Sirotkin, Lynn, Gasly, Evans etc maken allemaal kans.
