Status GP ontbreekt bij opening seizoen

Status Grand Prix schittert komend weekend door afwezigheid bij de opening van het nieuwe GP2-seizoen. Dat meldt Autosport. Status GP stapte eind vorig jaar al uit de GP3 en heeft ook geen coureurs aangetrokken voor de GP2 in 2016. Na het weekend in Barcelona houdt het team de situatie weer tegen het licht. De hoop bestaat dat Status GP nog overgenomen wordt.

Teddie Yip is de teambaas van Status GP. Hij is ook de baas van Theodore en die naam duikt komend seizoen wel op in het voorportaal van de Formule 1. Yip heeft besloten om Theodore Racing verder uit te bouwen en slaat de handen ineen met Prema Powerteam. "Ik heb besloten om Theodore Racing uit te breiden. 2016 zal een opwindend overgangsjaar worden."

"Mijn verlangen om samen te werken met jonge coureurs en grote talenten te steunen heeft me gemotiveerd om betrokken te raken bij en een positieve invloed uit te oefenen op de opstapklasses. De samenwerking met Prema bij de Formule 3-race in Macau is succesvol verlopen en dat maakte de beslissing om voor alle series met Prema in zee te gaan een stuk makkelijker."

Dat het al langer rommelt binnen Status GP werd afgelopen winter duidelijk. Zo kreeg werd onze redactie in maart informatie vanuit Strakka Racing dat dit team de licentie zou overnemen van Status GP. Deze overeenkomst is nog niet rond, maar Strakka is nog wel in gesprek.
